The House System

Sine 2010, St. Ann’s Catholic School has implemented a “House System” into its Middle School.  Through this House System, the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are divided amongst five houses:  St. Bernadette, St. Blaise, St. Cecilia, St. Jude, St. Luke,  and St. Michael.   The students are assigned to their house at the beginning of 6th grade and they remain in that House until they graduate.  The students meet daily with their House for 20 minutes in the morning.

Our Houses are named after Saints in the Catholic faith.  Time is spent during House building a personal relationship with the Saints and learning how to emulate their God-given gifts.

The system also creates an opportunity for the students to develop relationships with students in other grade levels as well as sense of accountability and responsibility.  Through restorative justice, the House System creates an environment with open communication and opportunities to work with one another.

The Houses participate in several Works of Mercy to give back not only to our local parish and Midland community, but also all over the United States and the world.  The students have organized drives to collect everything from books, toys, personal hygiene products, coats, socks, diapers/wipes, and food.  They have made prayer cards, rosaries, cleaned the local parks, served as Kindergarten reading buddies, and participated in community fundraising events, just to name a few!  Each year the service projects are developed by the students themselves and implemented within the House System.
