5th Grade Visits the Blakemore Planetarium

The St. Ann’s School 5th Graders were the first students in all of Midland/Odessa to get to see their art displayed on the large Science Sphere!

Each fifth grade class (5A & 5B) worked together as a team to create a tiny mural on one sheet of 8-1/2” x 14” paper. Each student contributed to the mural with his/her own drawing. Each class had only 45 minutes to create their work of art as team.

Next, the Director of the Museum, David Lasater, scanned the two mural images into his software that allowed the murals to be projected on to the sphere. One at a time, the students viewed each class mural. They were able to determine how successful each design was seeing the art bend around the sphere, and they also learned what we may have done differently after seeing these results.

The Director then chose a class winner! Congratulations 5B on your Cool-Colored Checkerboard Design!

What an amazing experience.

Thank you to David and Pete at the Blakemore Planetarium for allowing us to explore Science and Art together!
