Assessment Information

Students at St. Ann’s Catholic School participate in two Cognitive Ability Assessments in grades Kindergarten-Eighth Grade.  The assessments are administered in the month of September. The assessment data provide significant information to the teachers, grade levels and school-wide setting.

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test (NRT). The CogAT measures reasoning and problem-solving skills in three different areas: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal.  The CogAT measures general thinking skills that gradually develop over time, both in and out of school.

The Iowa Assessments is a group-administered achievement test for grades K-12 which measures a student’s knowledge in subject areas that students have learned in school – reading, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The Iowa Assessments were released in the 2011-2012 school year and has replaced the Iowa Test of Basic Skills® (ITBS®) and Iowa Test of Educational Development®. The new exam format has been redesigned to better align the exam with the Common Core Standards. The test is also better aligned with other state standardized tests.
