Honor + Worship Choirs
The Honor Choir is open to students in the 3rd through 5th grades; there are around 60-70 children in this choir each year. Any student in these grades who is willing to participate and maintain good conduct can join the Honor Choir. The students in this choir will have the opportunity to sing for special Masses and events throughout the school year. The Honor Choir also processes in during the Gathering Hymn at each Friday Mass, leading our congregation in song. When the Honor Choir performs for special events, parents are always notified in advance and most performances are not mandatory. Rehearsals will always be during school hours. Honor Choir students must be willing to exemplify the standards that our school sets.
The St. Ann’s Worship Choir is an elective for students in the 7th and 8th grades. This elective is new for the 2018-2019 school year. Last May, 6th and 7th grade students were given the opportunity to audition for the Worship Choir before four judges (all of whom had musical backgrounds/experience and were not part of the school staff.) Each student had to choose from a selection of three songs and sing before the judges, administration and the choir director. They were to sing 30 to 40 seconds of the piece they selected - acapella and using a microphone. Each judge had a score sheet and each student was judged accordingly as they sang their piece. The students were judged on voice quality and tone, pronunciation and clarity, pace and tempo, chemistry, confidence and mastery of lyrics. After the auditions the students who were selected were announced. 10 students were selected for the 2018-2019 school year.
Throughout the school year the Worship Choir will sing for special events, carol during Christmas, and sing for special Masses. The students' voices are classified and each student is placed in the proper vocal section. It has been amazing to see how much they have learned. These students truly love to sing!
