Our History

Welcome!  Our mission at St. Ann's school is to join with families to form students' faith, knowledge and character.

Plans for the establishment of St. Ann's School began in 1949 and the school officially opened in August of 1950.  Father Taylor built the original schoolhouse, which included a convent for the sisters who would be teaching at the school.  In the school's first year of operation, 175 students were enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade.  Seventh and eighth grades were added in the subsequent years and the first graduating class, of only nine students, was in 1953.  St. Ann's School has prospered throughout the years because of the generosity of the parishioners of St. Ann's Church.  In 1956, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. McClintic donated a half block of land west of St. Ann's School which is now known as "McClintic Field."  The school gymnasium and a playground are now located on the property.  Later, an Early Childhood curriculum was incorporated into the school program.  Through another generous donation, the Early Childhood Center was built in 1994 for the three and four year old preschool program.  A Middle School building was added to the school in 2000 to house the seventh and eighth grades.  The school campus now incorporates four buildings and two play areas for the students.  St. Ann's School has been opened for over 60 years and thousand of students have passed through her hallways.  All of our students receive an unmatched opportunity to explore and develop their fullest potential, spiritually and academically.

At the school's dedication ceremony in 1950, Most Reverend John L. Morkovsky, Bishop of Amarillo, stated, "This school is a monument to the Catholic faith in Midland.  It reveals a high state of development.  Congratulations are due for the sacrifices that have been made and have to be made for this contribution to Catholic Christian civilization.  This school is your gift- a legacy to this generation and the generations to come.  It is a monument of your faith, and Almighty God will bless you for your children- an institution wherein they may seek the Good, the True, and the Beautiful in Almighty God- wherein they may learn to love God, His Church, and the Sacraments.  May this school be a blessing for generations to come."  How true! How true! What words of wisdom!
